At our upcoming November 6 meeting, the GSC will be electing a new slate of executive officers to serve during the 2014 term. None of the current executive board members are running for re-election, so this is your chance to get involved!
You don’t have to be a GSC representative to run!
Nominations are open. You can nominate yourself or someone else by emailing me, or by just showing up to the meeting.
The posts and their responsibilities can be viewed on our website:http://students.brown.edu/GSC/static/officers

Hi, all!

Our preliminary agenda for Wednesday night’s GSC meeting is online. Remember, meetings are open to all graduate students but only departmental representatives can vote. At the beginning of each meeting, we vote on the agenda, so you can have your voice heard if there’s an important item you want to present on.
The meeting is Wednesday night at 7pm in the graduate student lounge. [Map]
We have two important elections on Wednesday night. Matt Lyddon stepped down recently. The presidency being left vacant, Keila Davis assumed the office in accordance with the GSC constitution. The vice-presidency is now open, as a result. Secondly, the position of Master’s Advocate is now open. Our interim appointment, Adolfo Bailon, did wonderful work over the summer but is now stepping down. View the job descriptions below:
If you have any questions about these posts or anything else about procedures or the GSC, please be in contact!

Don’t forget your Brown ID and 21+ government issued picture ID. Event opened only to Brown graduate students
Dust off your dancing shoes, it is that time of the year again!
How has your summer been? Ours has been super productive! We have a good deal coming your way, but first, let’s celebrate the fact that it is still summer by dancing it off (almost) until the end of the night.
In honor of summer, and to welcome our new, incoming, cohort of graduate students, we have planned a “Welcome Back” party next week. It’s time to celebrate past summers before we step foot in the future!
So, join us for a “Throwback Summer Friday”. Put on your best decade summer outfit, whether it’s that flowery hippie dress from the Summer of Love, or that pair of ripped denim jeans from your summer of Nirvana worship, or even last year’s Hawaiian vacation!
In short, we want to see you in your best touristy/summery outfit, and come dance or make new friends at the party! Summer might be dying, but it isn’t over until we say it’s over!
As usual you’ll get free beer tickets at the door, and some finger food.
Join us at Alumnae Hall, THIS Friday August 30, 2013 at 9pm!

Events start Wed., August 7.
Come to the open house to get your BEARINGS around Brown and Providence!

To all incoming international graduate students,
Welcome to Brown!
To help you get your bearings, the Graduate Student Council, Graduate School and Office of Campus Life and Student Services will be hosting Open Houses each week leading up to International Students Orientation (August 23rd).
They will take place on:
- Wednesday 7 August (this Wednesday!)

- Wednesday 14 August

- Monday 19 August

All between 12 and 1:30pm. Each Open House will be held in Room 411 in the J. Walter Wilson Building. If you’re yet to visit campus, this is on the corner of Brown Street and Waterman Street; it’s the same building where you’ll need to visit OISSS and check in with your paperwork.
These are not only a great way to start meeting people on campus, but a perfect opportunity to begin finding out more about what you’ll need to know in settling in and setting up in Providence!
Guests, including deans from the Grad School, staff from Campus Life andOISSS, members of the GSC, current graduate students, and the Summer Project Coordinator in International Graduate Student Experience will be available to take any questions you might have and welcome you to campus. So arrive early and enjoy snacks and coffee or tea with us as we regale you with stories of Brown!
